Cover Letter Tips That Get You Noticed
A strong cover letter explains why you want the role and how you fit, in a way your resume cannot. When done well, it gets read and can tip the scale in your favor. These tips help you write cover letters that get noticed.
Tailor every letter
Generic cover letters get skipped. Address the hiring manager by name when possible. Reference the company and role specifically. Explain why you want this job at this company, and link 1–2 of your achievements to what they need. Use our Cover Letter Generator to create a tailored draft, then edit it so it sounds like you and matches the job.
Keep it short and scannable
Aim for three short paragraphs: why you are interested, what you bring that is relevant, and a closing line with a call to action. Use clear, professional language. Avoid long paragraphs and repetition of your resume. The goal is to add context and motivation, not to repeat every bullet.
Match your resume
Your cover letter and resume should tell the same story. Use the same contact details and job titles. Highlight the same key achievements, but in narrative form. Our Resume Analyzer helps you strengthen your resume so it aligns with a strong cover letter.
